HISTORY

CHRONOLOGY

It all started with a friendship between Fr. Arcadius Dibyawahjana, S.J., Parish Priest of Wonosari, and S.Hadismarta, who often visited Gua Maria Tritis to meditate.

1972

1974

A few days later, Fr. Hardja came to the location of the cave and strived to turn it into a house of prayer for the Catholics.

1977

Fr. Zahnweh SJ introduced the first statue of Mary in that cave and blessed it as a place of pilgrimage under the name Gua Tritis Maria.

1989

The small statue of Mary was replaced with larger one that was made of cement.

1991

Fr. SP. Bambang Ponco Santosa SJ was ordained as a Priest and was immediately assigned to Wonosari to become an Assistant Priest.

1992

The statue of Mary was replaced again with one that was a size of a human and built upon the Stations of Cross.

2006

On the East side, the Kelor Parish was inaugurated with the protection of St. Peter and Paul. On the West side stands the Parish (Adm) of Bandung with the protection of St. Yusup.

2011

After 20 years moving around, Fr Ponco was reassigned to

the Wonosari Parish as the Chief Pastor.

THE MAJAPAHIT EMPIRE

Gua Maria Tritis had a role in the history because it became a bridge of REVELATION between the Kingdom of Majapahit and Mataram Yogyakarta.
